Wedding band Houston:
a staged Motown revue for ballrooms and ranch venues
A wedding band in Houston has to be able to fill a genuinely large room. This is a city of hotel ballrooms that seat 400, ranch venues an hour outside the loop, and receptions that run later than almost anywhere else we play. The Velvelettes bring a staged Motown and soul revue sized for it: three voices, live horns, choreography and an MC, from $3,400 to $12,500, with our own PA, lighting and engineer.
We have played a Galleria-area ballroom with a 400-seat floor plan, a barn conversion out past Katy where the power came off a single house panel, and a museum-district atrium with a marble floor that turned the room into a reverb tank until our engineer tamed it. Houston is a fly date, and the full production flies with us.
Big Houston rooms are where the difference between a band and a show becomes obvious. A four-piece playing background sets simply disappears into 400 people; a front line with horns, choreography and an MC does not. If your guest count is over 250, this is the single strongest argument for the seven-piece Revue over anything smaller.
Two practical notes. Ranch and barn venues frequently cannot supply two clean 20-amp circuits, so we advance the power with your venue and bring a distro or ask for a generator spec in writing rather than finding out at soundcheck. And storm season, roughly August into September, is real: our contract covers postponement terms, and we would rather talk about them in advance than in a group text at 6 am.

How a Houston date runs
Travel
A fly date from Detroit, about three hours in the air. Production travels with us and we land the day before the show.
Setup
90-minute setup, 30-minute soundcheck, two 20A circuits and about 16 by 12 ft of floor for The Revue. Large ballrooms may want a riser.
Good to know
Barn and ranch venues outside the loop often lack clean power. We advance the panel spec and bring distribution rather than discovering the problem at soundcheck.

Before you ask
Houston questions, answered
Is there a travel fee to Houston?
Yes. Houston is beyond our 150-mile no-fee radius, so travel is quoted per date as a visible line on the quote. Send your date through the availability check and the exact figure comes back with it.
How big a room can the band fill in Houston?
The seven-piece Revue holds a ballroom of 400 comfortably, and the nine-piece Grand Revue is built for 600 and up with a two-act staged show and a production manager. Below about 120 guests the three-piece Club Set is the better fit and the better value.
Do you play ranch and barn venues outside Houston?
Often, and they are some of our favorite rooms. The only real constraint is power: a seven-piece with PA and lighting needs two dedicated 20-amp circuits, and many barns cannot provide them without a generator. We settle that in the advance, in writing.
Do you play both weddings and corporate events in Houston?
Yes. Houston splits almost evenly for us between wedding receptions and corporate galas, including energy-sector year-end events that need Net-30 invoicing, a W-9 and a COI naming the venue as additional insured.
